About Adam.

On May 18, 2021, we lost a wonderful husband, father, friend, and police officer to a heart attack and undiagnosed heart disease. Adam Gustafson served as a Lieutenant at the West Fargo Police Department. His badge number was #305.

Adam Gustafson was born and raised in Long Prairie, MN and went to Long Prairie High School. He attended Minnesota State University, Mankato from 2000-2003, was deployed to Iraq with the Army National Guard from 2004-2005, and graduated from University of North Dakota in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He also graduated from Alexandria Technical College’s 10-week Police Officers Skills Program in 2008. Prior to getting hired with West Fargo Police Department as a Patrol Officer in March of 2009 he worked Airport Security at Fargo Hector International Airport.

Adam was a bike patrol officer since 2010, a Field Training Officer since 2012, and an EVOC instructor since 2012. He was on the DEA Task Force from 2013 until 2015 when he was subsequently promoted to Patrol Sergeant. As a Sergeant he became the Bike Patrol Supervisor, until he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant on January 2, 2018.

Adam was awarded the Lifesaving Award in 2012 and the Commendable Service Award twice in 2016.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln
